7 DAYS – MOUNT KILIMANJARO CLIMB MARANGU ROUTE

Mount Kilimanjaro is located at the north/eastern tip of Tanzania. For the adventurous, a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro is a must taking you through the mists of equatorial jungle to reach the snows and breath-taking views from the summit.

Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro:No climbing experience is necessary. The mountain climb can be in any month except during long rains in April and May. The best months are January to March and August to October usually with cloudless days. There are two peaks: Mawenzi-5149m and Kibo–5895m.

DAY 1: Board shuttle bus from Nairobi at 08:00 hrs and proceed to Arusha arriving at 13:00hrs. Depart for Moshi at 14:00hrs arriving at 15:30hrs. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Moshi

DAY 2: After breakfast, transfer to Marangu gate and start the climb through fascinating rain forests till you reach the first hut Mandara. Meals and overnight at the hut. (9,000ft).

DAY 3: After breakfast, follow the ascending path through the alpine – meadow. The altitude begins to change and slowdown your pace while enjoying the flora and the view of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at the Horombo Hut 12km from Mandara. Meals and overnight at the hut. (12,520ft).

DAY 4: After breakfast, resume the climb, the landscape becomes rugged and rocky. Lobelias begin to appear. Climb to Kibo Hut. Meals and overnight at the hut. (15,520ft)

DAY 5: The beginning of the last ascent is made in the wee hrs of the morning while the scree is still frozen. Climb the very steep part of the route to GILMANS POINT (most difficult and tiring part). UHURU PEAK is reached within an hour's walk along the crater rim. (19,344ft). Start the walk along the craters rim. (19,344ft). Start the descend to Horombo hut for overnight.

DAY 6: After breakfast descend to Marangu gate and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for overnight.

DAY 7: After breakfast, depart for your next destination, which is optional, either:
(a) Tanzania Camping Safari or Lodge safari or zanzibar beach
(b) Kilimanjaro International Airport
(c) Arusha Town
(d) Nairobi via Namanga border. .


8 DAYS KILIMANJARO CLIMB  MACHAME ROUTE

Machame route is regarded as the most scenic of the trails up Kilimanjaro. You ascend gradually through the forest till you emerge onto the Moorland of Shira Plateau, from which there are superb views of the Kibo Peak and the Great Western Breach. Travellers through Machame route sleep in TENTS. Machame route is also the most challenging / adventurous route up Kilimanjaro.

DAY 1: Board shuttle bus from Nairobi at 08:00hrs and proceed to Arusha arriving at 13:30hrs. Depart for Moshi at 14:00hrs arriving at 15:30hrs. Overnight in a Moshi Hotel.

DAY 2: Transfer from your Hotel to the Machame gate. From here you trek through the lush forest for 5 to 6 hours to Machame hut (10,000ft). Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

DAY 3: Leaving the forest, the path follows a steep ridge, passing through heather and open moorlands, and crossing a ridge to reach Shira hut (12,500ft). Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

DAY 4: You return eastwards and continue ascending through the dry landscape before dropping again to reach Barranco Hut (13,000ft). Dinner and overnight at the Campsite.

DAY 5: The path climbs steeply out of the Barranco Valley, crosses the Karanga Valley, then turn north to reach Barafu hut (15,500ft). Dinner and overnight at the Barafu hut.

DAY 6: A long day and an early start to reach the crater rim at Stella Point for sunrise. Then to Uhuru Peak (19,340ft) the highest point in Africa. After a short rest descend to Gilman’s Point and down to Mweka hut for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: Descend from Mweka hut to the park gate from where you are transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for overnight.

DAY 8: After breakfast, depart for your next destination, which is optional either:
(a) Tanzania Camping Safari or Lodge safari or zanznibar beach
(b) Kilimanjaro International Airport
(c) Arusha Town
(d) Nairobi via Namanga border .
